Shaun of the Dead is a great film, not seen it in a long time though! You have just reminded me of 'The Thing'. Need to rewatch that!

It's definitely great to have a few favourites on DVD to rewatch. I used to have Apollo 13 on VHS and pretty much wore out the tape! I have never seen any of the CSI series. Would you recommend?

Yes, I would recommend. I love both CSI: Miami and Los Angeles. But I really loved how the characters in Los Angeles had a banter with each other. I have never laughed so much with a tv series.

CSI; Crime Scene Investigation I have seen a few when I had a tv.

NCIS was the first thing I seen on tv when I used to have a tv. But many I have not seen. I enjoyed that one too of the ones I seen.

Huge Star Trek fan here. Being a child of the 70s I'd have to say the original movies are my favourites.

I must admit, as someone who was about 12 years old when Episode 1 came out, those prequel films do have a special place in my heart. I was already majorly into the original trilogy (I had the special edition VHS box set for my birthday in 1997). Then going to see the Phantom Menace with my friends at the local cinema blew my mind. I was pretending to do lightsaber battles for weeks after.

Showing my age now, but I was nearer my 30s when Episode 1 was released.

Ooh good ones. My list is below. I tend to think that the best films are in the past now. These days we seem to have a diet of Marvel franchises, Transformers etc, which I haven't really got into. I've lost touch with the modern film stars. Do you think Hollywood has run out of ideas? Maybe I'm getting old :) I do like films that bring us something new. Some totally new concept that really blows your mind. I remember coming out of the cinema after The Matrix and talking about what we just saw. What an idea, that we live in a constructed world completely in our minds. And how frightening to see what humanity had become. Alien is my all time favourite, and did sci-fi so much better than other films. Incredible suspense and horror, all without modern CGI effects. And IMO better for it.

Yep, your selections are perfect examples of films that can make it into my top five depending on my mood. You are right about the old films being better. It's been quite a few years since we have seen a film advertised that we wanted to go see. At least now with streaming, we can seek out indie films that aren't rammed full of explosions and superheroes. Totally agree with you on CGI. Some of my favourite film (Apollo 13 and LOTR) did of course use CGI, but always in balance with good old-fashioned practical effects. In Apollo 13 they actually went up in a plane that could perform a zero gravity manoeuvre. The result was it looked completely convincing and didn't take you away from the story. If you ever have time, the Apollo 13 documentary is amazing.

It's brilliant isn't it, I watched it many years ago in my twenties. Now I'm older I'm seeing it and understanding it all through a completely different lens.

Oh do watch BCS. I was initially not expecting much, because I thought nothing could improve on BB. But it did hold my interest, is different, and has nice links into BB. I would be interested to know what you think of the ending.
